핵심 정리

위치 전치사는 어디에 있는지를 나타냅니다. 기본은 at, on, in입니다.

2. 다양한 위치 전치사

전치사 뜻 예문
over 바로 위에 (떨어져서) The lamp is over the table.
above 위쪽에 The plane flew above the clouds.
under 바로 아래에 The cat is under the bed.
below 아래쪽에 The temperature is below zero.
beside, next to ~ 옆에 Sit next to me.
near ~ 가까이 I live near the station.
by ~ 바로 옆에 We stayed by the sea.
in front of ~ 앞에 She stood in front of the door.
behind ~ 뒤에 The park is behind the school.
between 둘 사이에 The bank is between two cafes.
among 셋 이상의 사이에 He is popular among students.
across from ~ 맞은편에 The bank is across from the post office.
around ~ 주위에 We sat around the table.
inside ~ 안에 It's inside the box.
outside ~ 밖에 I'll wait outside the building.

3. 전치사를 쓰지 않는 표현

here, there, abroad, downtown, upstairs는 전치사 없이 씁니다. home도 '집으로'라는 이동을 말할 때는 전치사를 쓰지 않습니다. 단, '집에 있다'는 be at home 또는 be home을 씁니다.

  • I went home. (to home ✗)
  • She lives abroad.
  • I'm here.

문법 오류

틀린 문장 맞는 문장 이유
I arrived to Seoul. I arrived in Seoul. 도시 도착에는 in을 씁니다.
I live in the 3rd floor. I live on the 3rd floor. 층에는 on을 씁니다.
I saw it in TV. I saw it on TV. 매체에는 on을 씁니다.
I went to home. I went home. home 앞에 to를 쓰지 않습니다.
I live at Korea. I live in Korea. 나라에는 in을 씁니다.

뜻 차이·권장 표현

표현 권장·대조 표현 구분 설명
I'm on the car. I'm in the car. 의미 차이 차 안이면 in을 씁니다. on은 차 위에 있다는 뜻이 됩니다.
He sat between his friends. He sat among his friends. 의미 차이 친구 무리 속이면 among을 씁니다. between은 보통 양쪽에 친구가 있다는 뜻입니다.
