핵심 정리

방향 전치사는 어디로 움직이는지를 나타냅니다. 위치 전치사가 '있는 곳'이라면 방향 전치사는 '움직임'을 나타냅니다.

전치사 뜻 예문
to ~으로 (목적지) I went to Busan.
into ~ 안으로 He walked into the room.
onto ~ 위로 She jumped onto the bed.
from ~에서, ~부터 I came from Seoul.
out of ~ 밖으로 He ran out of the house.
toward ~을 향해 She walked toward me.
through ~을 통과하여 We went through the tunnel.
across ~을 가로질러 We walked across the bridge.
along ~을 따라 I walked along the river.
past ~을 지나서 Go past the bank.
up / down 위로 / 아래로 Go up the stairs.
over ~을 넘어 The ball went over the fence.
around ~을 돌아 Walk around the park.
for ~을 향해 (출발) The bus left for Daegu.

1. 위치와 움직임

위치 (at, in, on) 방향 (to, into, onto)
I'm at the station. I'm going to the station.
The cat is in the box. The cat jumped into the box.
The book is on the desk. I put the book onto the desk.

put, jump, fall 같은 동사는 in, on을 쓰기도 합니다.

  • Put it in the box.
  • She jumped in the pool.

2. 주요 전치사

to, toward, for

전치사 뜻 예문
to 도착점까지 We flew to Tokyo.
toward 방향만 나타냄 He ran toward the exit.
for 출발, 행선지 She left for Tokyo.

into와 out of

표현 뜻 예문
get into (차에) 타다 Get into the car.
get out of (차에서) 내리다 Get out of the car.
get on (버스, 기차에) 타다 Get on the bus.
get off (버스, 기차에서) 내리다 Get off the bus.

across, through, along

전치사 이미지 예문
across 평면을 가로지름 Swim across the river.
through 입체 공간을 통과 Walk through the forest.
along 선을 따라감 Drive along the coast.

기타 동사의 방향

동사 전치사 예문
go, come, walk, drive to I drove to work.
arrive at (지점), in (도시) We arrived in Paris.
leave 목적어, for We left Seoul for Paris.
reach 없음 We reached the top.
return to She returned to Korea.
head to, for I'm heading to the gym.
run into I ran into the wall.

3. from A to B

  • I flew from Seoul to New York.
  • The road goes from the airport to downtown.
  • It takes an hour from here to there.

4. to를 쓰지 않는 단어

home, here, there, downtown, abroad, upstairs, downstairs, outside, inside는 전치사 없이 씁니다.

  • Go home. (Go to home ✗)
  • Come here. (Come to here ✗)
  • We went abroad. (went to abroad ✗)

The cat ran up the tree. 고양이가 나무 위로 달려 올라갔다.

보통 예문

예문 뜻
Turn left and walk along the river. 왼쪽으로 돌아 강을 따라 걸어가세요.
The train goes through a long tunnel. 기차는 긴 터널을 지나간다.
She took the keys out of her bag. 그녀는 가방에서 열쇠를 꺼냈다.
We drove across the country in a week. 우리는 일주일 만에 차로 나라를 횡단했다.

어려운 예문

예문 뜻
Protesters marched through the city center toward the parliament building. 시위대는 도심을 가로질러 의회 건물을 향해 행진했다.
The firm is moving toward a more sustainable business model. 그 회사는 더 지속 가능한 사업 모델로 나아가고 있다.
Thousands of refugees crossed over the border into the neighboring country. 수천 명의 난민이 국경을 넘어 이웃 나라로 들어갔다.

7. 한국인이 자주 하는 실수

문법 오류

틀린 문장 맞는 문장 이유
I went to home. I went home. home 앞에 to를 쓰지 않습니다.
We went to abroad. We went abroad. abroad는 부사입니다.
I arrived to Busan. I arrived in Busan. arrive는 to를 쓰지 않습니다.
We reached to the top. We reached the top. reach는 타동사입니다.
I entered into the room. I entered the room. enter는 타동사입니다.
He left to Seoul. He left for Seoul. leave의 행선지에는 for를 씁니다.

뜻 차이·권장 표현

표현 권장·대조 표현 구분 설명
Get off the car. Get out of the car. 의미 차이 승용차에서 내린다는 뜻이면 get out of를 씁니다. get off는 차 위에서 내려오라는 뜻이 됩니다.
