핵심 정리

수동태 뒤에는 보통 by를 쓰지만, 일부 표현은 다른 전치사를 씁니다. 숙어처럼 외우면 됩니다.

4. 수동의 의미를 가진 동사

주어가 사물이지만 능동태로 쓰는 동사입니다.

뜻 차이·권장 표현

표현 권장·대조 표현 구분 설명
Wine is made of grapes. Wine is made from grapes. 사용 빈도 차이 재료의 형태가 바뀌면 보통 from을 씁니다.
The team is made of five people. The team is made up of five people. 사용 빈도 차이 구성 요소를 말할 때는 보통 made up of를 씁니다.
This town is known by its food. This town is known for its food. 의미 차이 유명한 이유를 말할 때는 for를 씁니다. by는 판단 기준을 나타냅니다.
I'm tired from waiting. I'm tired of waiting. 의미 차이 '기다리는 데 싫증이 나다'면 of를 씁니다. 왼쪽은 기다려서 피곤하다는 뜻입니다.
